In Shanghai there a Chanel Fashion show going on. The catwalk is erected in front of the Pudong panorama. China is keen to do business with the inscrutable – sorry - the excruciating Karl Lagarfeld. It wasn’t all bad - Vanessa Paradis poses for a photograph.

A bit more about Vanessa now. In October this year it was announced that Vanessa Paradis became the New Face of CHANEL Lipstick.

In 1992, she whistled and displayed her skills as an acrobat, lending her youthful grace and already exceptional personality to the Coco fragrance.

In 2003, in front of Karl Lagerfeld’s camera, the young woman became the muse for the Cambon handbags.

In 2010, her modern elegance, boldness of character and power of emotion will unite with a range of lipstick with an evocative name: Rouge COCO de Chanel.

This special relationship thus continues, with consistency and modernity.

Say what you want about her, just remember: this woman can outsmize Tyra, and then go home and do Johnny Depp all night.Image and video hosting by TinyPic</a>

Brangelina Forever: Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Embrace

This lovely sculpture by Daniel Edwards, entitled Brangelina Forever, depicts real-life movie star couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt nude and engaged in a life-sized romantic embrace.

Edwards collaborated with L.A.-based artist, Xvala, who dubbed the 4,000 square foot, $500,000 home in which the statue resides, The Brangelina. Xvala said of the piece, "I believe every home in America should become an 'honorary home' to our Superstars, in order to connect celebrities and regular people in spirit." Naturally.

Additionally, a press release announcing the unveiling of the piece, "The statues are embedded with crushed glass containing Brad and Angie's DNA obtained from wine glasses from which they drank while reportedly celebrating the anniversary of their first meeting on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith."

20. The Squid and the Whale (2005)

Noah Baumbach reportedly wanted friend and writing partner Wes Anderson to direct The Squid And The Whale, but Anderson wisely turned the project down, arguing that only Baumbach was qualified to direct such a personal project. Baumbach has played down the autobiographical aspects of his film about the messy divorce of elitist professor and has-been writer (Jeff Daniels) and his more successful writer wife (Laura Linney) in Reagan-era New York, but it certainly feels ripped from the most agonizing moments of its creator’s past. Baumbach is especially unsparing and uncompromising in his depiction of his surrogate (Jesse Eisenberg), a pretentious young intellectual-in-training who has internalized the worst aspects of his father’s sneering disdain for everyone he considers inferior. (Which is to say, the sum of humanity). Prominent among the film’s many virtues is its brevity: At 81 minutes, it’s a little less than 70 minutes shorter than Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and arguably the better film.

Paris and Doug are currently on vacation together in Vancouver, Canada. I found a bunch of really cute photos of them out having fun in the snow. During their stay they’ve been on a helicopter tour, a dog sled ride and they’ve been snowboarding as well as taken a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride.

Kindle Accessories in Toronto?

Cari posting in Toronto Community
My mother-in-law got a Kindle as soon as they were available for Canadians, and we were thinking it might be nice to get her some accessories. Does anyone know if any of the accessories can be found locally, or does it have to be purchased online (like the Kindle itself)?

She already has a case and light, but we were thinking something like this (she travels a lot). We're running out of time, so a local buy would be ideal.

Thanks in advance.

My Dear,
I will make this a shorter version,a briefing. My wife and I of 17 years have been battle-ing since our engagement.Red flags ignored by my blinding love for her, then.I've gotten through her forgetfull vows when my name fled her memory. No saint am I but my faithfulness has been constantegarless of her accusations. For the last 5 years or so I hear of her never loving me and her to desire to leave.Telling her I love her and am not asking her to go I say to do as she desires.Last year ,she was dianois with cancer, through all the treatment[to deep to get into]I would hear how she can't wait till she gets bettrer to leave my ass.I don't know what I seeking through this, maybe just an outside vent.Anyhow,I'm looking forward to outside opinions, maybe someone will see my negative results and open my eye.Thank you

DITL Special Event: Best of 2009!

Babs posting in day in the life
Year four and still going strong. Welcome to the "Best of 2009" event and a 'free' month with open posting all December long!

In the spirit of the season, we'll be looking back over a year of winning entries from dozens of members and have a chance to revisit our favourites. You have the entire month to consider which posts really stood out for you - entries that made you mourn, laugh, squee out loud or jump up and down - then cast your vote for those to be chosen as this year's "Best". The winning member receives a $10 Livejournal Gift Certificate!
There are 42 choices for this year's winner, with several members eligible for voting a few times over. However, only one entry will be chosen, so please be specific of which entry you're voting for when you cast! More on that below in the rules...

During this time submissions are open to all members, on any day, as many times as you want until January 3rd - when the winner of the contest is announced. January 4th of 2010 will be the first official DITL day of the new year.

When submitting your holiday DITLs you can also photograph multiple days (a special weekend, for instance) so long as you keep the content within reasonable limits.
All month long members will be showing us how they prepare, feast, visit and celebrate through the holidays. So please join in and share yours!

The standard rules

  • Return to this entry over the course of the submission period to vote for as many entries that you felt were particularly good/moving/touching/funny/unique/interesting, but please no "Ballot box stuffing". Any double votes will be discounted.

  • Votes are hidden, so you can feel free to NOT vote for your best friend. They'll never know.

  • Votes for yourself will not be counted: we're playing for a prize so it's nicer to nominate someone other than yourself. :)

  • Non-members can vote.

Additional "Best of" rules:

  • Results will be posted on January 3rd - January 4th is the next official DITL day! You have an entire month to view and submit for the holidays and to consider your vote(s). We will post several reminders as this event draws to a close.

  • Some winners have placed first more than once over the course of the year, and even though all of their winning entries will appear here to be considered and voted on, only one entry can win, (even if they received the first and second-most votes in this event!). Only the highest tally will be counted. Keep this in mind when voting and try to pick just what you feel is the best entry of a multiple-time winner.

Feeling lost and confused? Here's an FAQ

    How to vote this round
Winning entries are sorted by month in chronological order, each icon links back to their eligible winning entry for that week. There will be ten poll spaces at the bottom of this entry, and overflow can go into screened comments. You can vote for as many people as you want, so do not feel bound to keep it to 10 or under if you really think, say, 12 people deserve a vote.

What if I'm voting for someone who has had 2/3/4/+ wins this year?
Since the entry with the highest number of votes is the only winner, you'll probably want to chose only one entry by this person and vote for that one as a representative (don't worry, you have a month to consider which one this is). When you've decided on which was the most memorable for you, add their name into the box along with the date of the entry - a simple, short "jan 13" will suffice. Dates will be displayed above each winning icon, which are right over the voting spaces, so there's no excuse for forgetting!
Votes for multiple-time winners where the votes are not accompanied by a date are not counted. This is because, in the end, we would have no idea which of their entries actually won - missing the whole point of the event!

    I'm still confused about multi-winners...
Let's say you're voting for [info]imbroglio, and she's won on four occasions, one of them being on a DITL for May the 8th. You like that one best, so you'd write in the polling space "imbroglio May 8", or some other readable variation. That's all there is to it.

I like me best. I want to win the gift certificate.
Unfortunately votes for yourself are not counted, but there's no rule against spamming in your own journal and telling people to come on down and vote for you - non-members can vote. The more traffic this event gets, the better (and the more accurate the voting as we'll get a much wider spread. 65 votes for first is better than 3 votes for first, second and third decided by a coin toss!).

What kind of vote would be discounted?
Votes for yourself (cheater), filling all the fields in with the same entry over and over and over again, or voting by writing in "this one" or "yes" (this happens in almost every voting round and is very confusing - please don't do this).

I have a suggestion for how to shake things up next year, how can I go about sharing that?
You can leave it in this entry and it will be unscreened for discussion with other members (unless you specifically request otherwise). Please mark the subject "suggestion". If you want to speak privately to a mod, follow the instructions at [info]ditlmods.

Any other questions, comments or concerns can be answered in comment form here, or more privately at [info]ditlmods.

    And the entries... )

I have a government form that needs to be signed in the presence of someone qualified to practice law in Ontario. It'll literally take 30 seconds: we both sign and date it and I'm on my way. I don't have a lawyer and the only lawyers I know personally aren't handy at the moment, any ideas where I could go to take care of this? Would it be wrong to just pop into a law firm and ask for a minute of someone's time?

I'm in the Annex, but suggestions anywhere downtown would be great.

Dear AMA,

I am an avid reader of www.hotchickswithdouchebags.com and also Rich at www.fourfour.com. Now in the pics at HCWDs, Douchebag1 often mocks the ubiquitousness of the 'red cup' as a reliable indicator of douchebagginess. Rich at fourfour is snarking something called The Jersey Shore, which appears to be a show about the Guidos and their douchebaguettes, there appears to be an abundance of RED CUPS.

What is it with the red cups, are they the cup of choice when having a disposable one?

Or is there a red cup conspiracy to douchebag the world, one guido/edhardy 'bag at a time?

So this is spawned by this thread. Never tried that meal but sure sounds delicious to me.

What is the most adventurous thing that you've ever eaten? And what is the most adventurous thing that you would LIKE to eat?

I've eaten ostrich, buffalo, chicken feet (dim sum restaurant). I'd love to try ostrich egg, which I hear is very rich, and I've been meaning to try rattlesnake, which is unavailable on the east coast. I'd also love to try milk from different animals, like camel or goat.

Do you have smelly feet? What do you do about them?

It's like this: I go to a college that requires us to wear a uniform everyday except Wednesdays and Saturday. Part of the aforementioned uniform is black closed shoes, and mine are high-heeled pumps.

I don't wear socks with them, so I end up with smelly feet. Before, I didn't mind so much. Now it's a concern because I drive, and I usually change into slippers, so it's embarrassing when I have company. And it would be nice to actually not have to worry about this problem!

I know it helps to not wear the same shoes everyday but at the moment I really only have one pair. Footsocks are not an option with these shoes. And I do get Google results, but it'd be nice to hear from people's personal experiences.

* posting in The Question Club
There's a topic that's blowing my mind and google is not being useful, so I need help!

I was asked how the children of a homosexual couple get their last names in Spanish speaking countries. Each person in our countries has 2 last names: the 1st last name is the 1st last name of the father and the 2nd last name is the 1st last name of the mother.

As much as I have researched only Spain (of all spanish speaking countries) allows adoption of children by homosexual couples or allows one of the partners to adopt the child of the other partner in the couple. Sadly, there's no information about how the last names are distributed.

For those of you who have a clue: How is the rule? Do you have any sources?

For those of you who dont, how do you think this should be solved?

I hope I explained this well enough...

I am making meatloaf for a party next weekend. Thing is, I've figured I need to make like 5 loaves' worth to feed 14-15 people. Is there a better way to go about this? My thought was just prepare each loaf pan, store it in the fridge until ready to cook, then throw it all in the oven.
